Takanari Higuchi was born in Kyoto in 1947. He began training in aikido in 1963 and was awarded his Third Dan from Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, in 1967. He trained with Morihiro Saito Sensei and with Bansen Tanaka Sensei. In 1973 he founded the Kokutetsu Kyoto Koan Aikido Dojo, Takemusu-Kai, which in 2000 became the first martial arts nonprofit in Japan. He received his Aiki Ken Hiden Mokuroku from Saito Sensei in 1997. In 2007 he received a Japanese government grant for a cultural exchange program and was invited to Ukiah.
